The first 6G flying platform demonstrated in Rome

Italy, Rome - May 29th 2023

In the context of the IEEE ICC 2023 Rome conference, a technology demo has been shown and organized by the Italian laboratory of wireless communications of CNITWiLab, the communications giant Huawei, and the cargo drone manufacturer FlyingBasket

The demo consisted of lifting a 6G prototype base station weighting about 80Kg with 20Gbps throughput being lifted by the FB3 heavy cargo drone, transmitting an 8K video feed to a livestream in the La Nuvola auditorium where the IEEE ICC conferences were taking place. The demo was developed with the support and the authorization of ENAC (the civil aviation authority that gave the permission to fly over the city of Rome), MIMIT (the Ministry allowed the experimental use of the 72 GHz band) and EUR S.p.A.

This demonstration was also the first flight of this kind in the city of Rome. The successful demonstration paves the ground for future 6G cargo drones feasibility.
